Information about sailing in Spain

Useful info about Spain

Spain offers many different sailing areas. On the coast the sailing areas are divided into: Barcelona (Costa Brava), Valencia, Alicante (Costa Blanca) and Malaga. In the Mediterranean there are the Balearic Islands, in the North Atlantic there are the Canary Islands.

Advantages:

  • Stable weather conditions (30 to 35°C air temperature)
  • Around 24°C water temperature
  • Well equipped, modern marinas
  • Good accessibility of the marinas
  • Great variety of natural and cultural experiences

What to expect when sailing in Spain:

  • Coastal areas and Balearic Islands: Well suited for beginners and families due to the weather and infrastructure
  • Canary Islands: Suitable for experienced sailors due to challenging sailing conditions
  • Tramorate winds and light mistral in coastal areas
  • Subtropical climate and strong winds (NE trade winds) at the Canary Islands
  • Rather expensive compared to other marinas in the Mediterranean Sea

BOATICO tip:

Sail in the early and late season, as the boats in Spain are mostly rented all year round anyway.
