Learn more about Sailing in Italy

Useful info about Italy

The sailing areas in Italy are: Liguria, Tuscany, Amalfi and Calabria. Particularly beautiful are the sailing areas around Sicily and Sardinia, although these are rather challenging. The rest of the areas are also suitable for beginners. The sailing season is from May to October.

Advantages:

  • Suitable for sailing beginners* (except Sardinia!).
  • Suitable for families
  • Stable Mediterranean climate
  • Well equipped marinas
  • A variety of beautiful beaches and bays
  • And of course: Italian cuisine

What to expect when sailing in Italy:

  • 30°C air temperature in the summer months
  • Warm water temperatures
  • Winds: Mistral and Scirocco (beware of sudden gusts)
  • Expensive marinas (especially in August)
  • Boat license necessary, but no radio license
  • Easy to reach

BOATICO tip:

August is the strongest travel month in Italy, we recommend you to avoid it. Also, the sailing areas are often very rocky, so always pay close attention to the tides.
